Our staff and volunteers are fully qualified and trained to meet the unique needs of young people affected by cancer. They have the skills and the heart to make camp a memorable and fun experience. All camps are located short distances from the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary and the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. And, Camp Kindle has a fully equipped clinic with all the amenities of a big city clinic.

Summer Camp

Our free camp programs offer kids across Alberta a chance to escape the demands of cancer for outdoor fun and adventure in a safe, caring environment. Building strength and resilience, our camp programs give kids the tools they need to deal with the physical, emotional and social effects of the disease. Our camps are also open to siblings, who often struggle with feelings of fear and guilt, abandonment and jealousy as parents shift much-needed attention to their sick child. Kids Cancer Care is also proud to offer camp programs at Camp Kindle for children who have or have had a parent with cancer. Our programs start at age three with Sunrise daycamps and we have unique camp programs for each age group through to age 17.

Year-Round Camp

The fun doesn't have to end because summer is over. Camp Kindle is a year-round facility and we enjoy hosting campers in every season! Our year-round weekend tween and teen camps are an adventure! And, camp isn’t just for kids. We offer family camps, to families facing childhood cancer, so parents can get-in on the fun too. We also have a special weekend camp for bereaved families only.

Glamp Kindle: Family VayCay 2020

In 2020, we were unable to run our usual camp programs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After temporarily shutting down Camp Kindle in the early days of the pandemic and laying off most of our camp staff, those who remained got creative, envisioning a safe way to still provide cancer camp to kids and families. We collaborated with Alberta Health Services to ensure all pandemic safety protocols were in place. Thanks to supporters like you, and the dedication and ingenuity of our hardworking staff, 44 families, totalling 198 individuals, enjoyed Camp Kindle in the summer of 2020 through special physically distanced getaways.

“Healing is not just about medications, it is about strengthening the mind and spirit. Camp helps make the body, mind and spirit healthier.  Ideally, a child treated for cancer should still be able to be a child. Camp is about kids being kids, despite the diagnosis of cancer.”
