“Volunteering is at the very core of being human. No one has made it through life without someone else’s help.” ~ Heather French Henry
We have a volunteer role for you
At Kids Cancer Care, we love our volunteers! We can’t do what we do without you. Volunteers are active on the front lines and behind the scenes at Kids Cancer Care. Whether you’re looking for a long-term or short-term commitment, we offer flexible schedules that fit with all kinds of schedules and lifestyles, be it busy or those with wide open calendars. Enjoy working with children or prefer the allure of special events? Kids Cancer Care has a role for you. Check out the area that best suits you and your interests and apply through our volunteer database Better Impact.
General Requirements
Volunteers are required to be 18 years old or older
Complete the screening process including - application, interview, vulnerable sector criminal records check, reference checks, signing and agreeing to volunteer expectations
Attend new volunteer orientation within the first year of volunteering
Commit to at least three programs or events in a year (please note that our PEER exercise and tutoring have different time commitments)
Listen closely and you’ll hear the squeal of children laughing and the snap of campfire crackling. Summer camp offers kids with cancer a chance to escape the rigors and isolation of cancer treatments for a week of outdoor adventure. Be the volunteer behind the laughter. Our 2023 camp season is open and we are currently looking for camp volunteers for our spring, summer and fall camps. To volunteer for our camp programs, please register through our volunteer database Better Impact.
2024 Camps
SunRise (ages 3-7): A day camp with field trips, arts and crafts, along with visits from clowns, naturalists, EMS workers and other exciting guests!
SunHaven & SunMaker (ages 7-17): A five-day overnight camp at Camp Kindle for children who have a parent with cancer or young people affected by pediatric cancer. Make new friends and take on new challenges— high ropes, zip line, climbing, rafting, swimming and more!

As you can imagine, there are a variety of roles that need to be filled for summer camp. Here are just a few:
Camp Nurse
Camp Counsellor
Buddy Counsellor

Tutors
Cancer is not always over when the treatments stop. Survivors of childhood cancer often face complex, long-term side-effects, which can impact their ability to learn and perform academically.
We are looking for volunteer tutors to give children disadvantaged by cancer a step up! If you are patient, skilled and have a passion for helping kids learn, we want to hear from you.
Tutors must
Be 18 years or older.
Have previous experience teaching or tutoring youth or general experience working with youth (e.g. camps, programs, lessons) combined with thorough knowledge of a key subject area (e.g., math, science, English, social studies).
Be able to commit two hours (online or in-person) each week for a full year (with an understanding that vacations/exams will detract from some weeks).
Every year, we host a variety of events that raise vital funds for the foundation. Volunteer for one or more of Kids Cancer Care’s signature events including the Kids Cancer Care Cycle Challenge, Kindle Pursuit, Dad and Daughter Gala, and Rock Your Locks.
We are fortunate to have amazing groups and individuals in the community who host fundraisers for Kids Cancer Care such as golf tournaments, stampede parties, festivals, and more. We collaborate with our community partners by providing volunteers for these events.
Kids and families programs
Are you a people person? Do you enjoy working with kids and/or adults? Our recreational and therapeutic outreach programs, offered all year long, are designed to help kids and their parents escape the demands of cancer, if only for an evening or afternoon while helping them to build the friendships, resources, and resilience they need for the long journey ahead. Volunteer and help support Kids Cancer Care families.
Behind the scenes
Event set-up, summer camp prep, and general office duties all fall into our behind-the-scene volunteer roles. You can us by making sure we are well-prepared and ready to go with every event and program we offer!
PEER exercise
PEER is a therapeutic exercise program designed for kids on or off cancer treatments and their siblings. Gain valuable experience working directly with children affected by cancer. Ideal volunteers are students or graduates of kinesiology, physical education, adapted physical literacy, nursing, medicine, or individuals with experience in the fitness/wellness industries.
Recruitment will open in Summer 2024!
