Volunteers are active on the frontlines and behind the scenes at Kids Cancer Care. Whether you’re looking for a long-term or short-term commitment, we offer flexible schedules that can fit in with all kinds of lifestyles be it busy or those with wide open calendars. Enjoy working with children or prefer the allure of special events, Kids Cancer Care has a role for you. Check out the area that best suits your interests and apply through our volunteer database Better Impact. Please note that the volunteers are required to be 18 years or older.

Listen closely and you’ll hear the squeal of children laughing and the snap of campfire crackling. Summer camp offers kids with cancer a chance to escape the rigors and isolation of cancer treatments for a week of outdoor adventure. Be the volunteer behind the laughter. Our 2022 camp season is open and we are currently looking for camp volunteers for our spring, summer and fall camps. To volunteer for our camp programs, please register through our volunteer database Better Impact.

2022 Camps

  • SunRise (ages 3-7): A day camp with field trips, arts and crafts, along with visits from clowns, naturalists, EMS workers and other exciting guests!
  • SunHaven & SunMaker (ages 7-17): A five-day overnight camp at Camp Kindle for children who have a parent with cancer or young people affected by pediatric cancer. Make new friends and take on new challenges— high ropes, zip line, climbing, rafting, swimming and more!

Our camps offer kids a chance to be kids!

As you can imagine, there are a variety of roles that need to be filled for summer camp. Here are just a few:

  • Camp Nurse
  • One-to-One Aid
  • Camp Counsellor

Specialized Skills

Think you don’t have the skills it takes to be a Kids Cancer Care volunteer? Think again! We're always looking for a variety of talented people who excel in a range of different fields such as plumbing, accounting, electricians, carpentry, making balloon animals, heavy-lifting, painting fingernails or flipping burgers. We know you have a hidden talent - it’s time to let it shine!

Cancer is not always over when the treatments stop. Survivors of childhood cancer often face complex, long-term side-effects, which can impact their ability to learn and perform academically.

We are looking for volunteer tutors to give children disadvantaged by cancer a step up! If you are patient, skilled and have a passion for helping kids learn, we want to hear from you.

Tutors must

  • Be 18 years or older.

  • Have previous experience teaching or tutoring youth or general experience working with youth (e.g. camps, programs, lessons) combined with thorough knowledge of a key subject area (e.g., math, science, English, social studies).

  • Be able to commit two hours (online or in-person) each week for a full year (with an understanding that vacations/exams will detract from some weeks).

See the complete Tutor Roles and Responsibilities.

If you are interested in applying, please complete this form. Our education program coordinator Rachel will get back to you if we have a learner in need of a tutor that would be a good fit.

Event Committee Members

Good times. Fine wine. Daytime or evening splendour. Fundraising events help raise vital funds to send kids to camp, set valuable research in motion, improve the quality of patient care and make education support and scholarships possible for cancer survivors.

Volunteers are key to successful fundraising events. If you are positive, hardworking and self-motivated, we need you to help us coordinate event sponsorship, auction items and event logistics.

Without our dedicated volunteers, many of our events could not take place. Enjoy a variety of event opportunities from our own signature events to a host of other fundraisers being hosted by our friends in the community.

We understand that sometimes life gets in the way of volunteering! If you find yourself unable to commit to a volunteer opportunity, but you still have a burning desire to help, we encourage you to become a Kids Cancer Care Champion!

This role is incredibly important. Help us spread the word about the foundation; share posts on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, encourage your workplace to support Kids Cancer Care. Help us keep Kids Cancer Care and our cause top-of-mind!

Kids Cancer Care programs and services rely on a flurry of administrative work that takes place behind the scenes.

Whether it’s preparing mailings, updating databases or reconciling donations, we invite you to get involved as an office volunteer! We promise to be on our best behaviour when you come and volunteer!
